Six Month Sweetness // Client Sitter Session

This past weekend I had the privilege of taking six month photos for our dear friends’ daughter. This session was pure joy.

Six months is one of my favorite ages. For our daughter, the weekend she turned six months was when she first sat up on her own. It opened up a whole new world for her, and her family… big brother realized she was a person he could interact and play with, and he spent hours sitting next to her handing her toys and giggling with her. That melted my heart, and she was no longer as reliant on me for attention! The baby is literally seeing things in a whole new way–able to look at people face to face, turn her head to take in surroundings on all sides, and do so all when she wants, not just when mommy props her up. Then she gets to start reaching for all those things she sees around her… and of course, putting it all in her mouth. For the parent, all of the sudden the baby is more content to sit on her own and explore around her. For so many months, it’s almost impossible to leave the child’s side. But all the sudden, you can step away, and she may not even notice, she’s so engrossed in her new world. This weekend’s session brought back all those memories.

This little girl – Baby E – was an absolute joy to photograph. She’s so sweet, happy, and chill. Her eyes are a stunning pale blue with darker rims, and they change with the light and her clothes, from a pale slate blue to rich aqua–pure beauty to look at and capture through the camera.

We started out taking a few shots with her older sister, who then went out for a daddy-daughter date while we focused on Baby E and her beautiful mama…

The dress in the above pics is Baby E’s auntie’s. I’m a sucker for smocking to begin with, and that’s just so sweet!

You can see we used an in-home setting for these photos. My photography style is lifestyle, meaning scenes that capture a family in their natural element, not posed with backdrops and  props. Yes, there is a lot of thought that goes into the location and positioning within it–it’s incredibly dependent on lighting–but then, it’s just about beingI look for the feelings, scenes, and interactions that are true to their everyday. That is what I want to capture forever for them in a photograph.

And for that reason, I love these last two images: They show the love and joy between and a mama and her baby girl, with mama looking on affectionately as the baby ventures away from her (but with her mama’s close touch keeping her safe), and then pulling her back in for a tight snuggle and a kiss.
