I met this family just about two years ago, when I took their son’s newborn photos, and saw them again for his first birthday photo session. Add one more year, and he’s a big brother, and his sister is a big sis x2! I love seeing families regularly over the years, catching up on all that’s happened and where life has taken them in the interim. As a photographer, I also love returning for another newborn session because I already know the natural light and layout of the rooms in their home, so I start brainstorming and dreaming weeks in advance of the images I want to take.
This session was a fun challenge because the family is about to move into a new home, so baby 3 doesn’t have his own nursery, and we wanted to make sure his photographs were distinct from his brother’s newborn and one-year photos. His mama and I chatted in advance about how we could achieve that — she had wonderful vision of the colors to use, and a particular wall that would be a great backdrop.
Funny and crazy coincidence — they’re actually moving into a house by the same builder as our new place, almost exactly the same layout. They had even walked through our house while it was under construction. How random is that?? So it was really fun to design these photos in their old home, knowing the style and look of the new one in which they’d want to display them. Moving with three kids, one so little and two old enough to feel and respond to big transitions, is no joke. We talked a lot about it, how it all went down for our family, and how it was so worth the crazy roller coaster to land in that forever home. Especially when there are now five of you! I loved photographing this family again, and I can’t wait for them to settle in as a family of five in their new home.
