How would you describe your style?
In-home, natural light photography that yields authentic, yet refined and beautiful, images. I love capturing my clients in their comfort zone, recording their feelings, emotions, and interactions with their babies or young children, so they can look back and remember what life was like then.
Where do you shoot?
Newborn sessions happen in your own home. Family and child sessions can be at your home or at another familiar location of your choice. I like to work with you to see what fits your family. Do you love being outdoors and want a natural setting? Or do you have gorgeous light at home and want to capture your family’s nest? At-home sessions bring an authenticity that I promise you’ll look back on fondly (and don’t worry, I do move clutter that could be distracting in pictures — like stray water bottles or socks on the ground).
When do you hold client sessions?
Newborn sessions I schedule on weekday mornings, typically starting ~10am, and they last ~2 hours. If your nursery gets afternoon light, we’ll schedule for early afternoon (starting at ~1pm) instead.
For child and family sessions: I schedule outdoor sessions in the early mornings or late afternoons, so we can use the beautiful rising or setting light (and avoid nasty shadows on the subjects’ faces). For indoor ones, we’ll figure out when there is the best light at the desired location. And we’ll take into account kids’ nap / happy / cranky schedules!
I schedule child and family sessions on weekdays or on select weekends each month, reserving the other weekends for dedicated time with my family.
Do you use props?
Nope, I don’t use props or do newborn beanbag posing. I want to capture your family naturally and true to your everyday. That said, I strive for a mix of candid and posed portrait shots (see next question!). For newborn shoots, I will bring blankets and wraps if you’d like for some simple portrait poses, but I love to use your own.
Do you pose at all?
Yes! Being in front of a camera is inherently different from your family’s everyday. We’ll talk before your session and I’ll brainstorm a ideas for different set ups. I help position you and your fam to make sure we get flattering photographs that take advantage of the light and space. As we get into the session, it becomes easy to relax and simply “be,” which creates such sweet photographs.
What if my kids don’t behave?
I’m a mom to three very active children. I apologize in advance if I’m too honest in sharing about their latest shenanigans in during our session 😉 Kids are kids, and my job is to capture them with their true personalities showing. I guide them, yet go with their flow. I’ll work with children on their schedule, whether that means nursings, snack breaks, down time, or run around like crazy time.
How do I get my pictures?
After a session, I will provide a sneak peak of ~3 images over email. The full set of digital proofs will be completed within 2-3 weeks and sent to you in an online, password-protected gallery. You’ll then be able to purchase your photographs from the session through your gallery. I sell the digitals with prints (or prints with digitals, however you want to look at it). I offer photographs individually and in packages of 10, 20, or the full set. You also get the digitals if you chose other artwork instead of standard prints (next question!).
What about additional prints and other art?
You can order additional prints and other products a la carte through your online gallery. I work with a professional print lab. Actually a few, from which I’ve curated top products for my clients. There is an overwhelming overload of photography products out there, so I’ve done the legwork and tried out many so you don’t have to. I’ve selected high quality standard prints, photo boxes, metal prints, framed products, acrylic block prints, and more. I am always happy to show you samples and work with you to customize what you buy. I can show you samples, look at your walls with you, or even do this all over Zoom! Also, you’ll have the full rights for printing the images you buy.
What’s your gear?
I’m a Nikon gal. My current combo is my Nikon D750 with 24-70mm and 35mm lenses. I always shoot RAW. Coffee is my assistant.
