Here is my next installment of photos from #TheFrontPorchProject for you all! These families are in two neighborhoods adjacent to mine. Haven’t we all gained an even greater appreciation for our neighbors during the pandemic? The interactions while we watch our kids play outside in each of our yards, create chalk art on the driveway, or water plants (oh yeah, I’ve joined the club of those taking up gardening and landscaping for the first time ever) have become the social highlights of our days. I’m so grateful for our community on our little street, for the socially distanced company and emotional support we’ve been able to provide for one another.

In these cases, I texted a few friends of mine who live in these neighborhoods, and almost instantly I had a full evening of front porch photos! From parents of young kids who are on duty 24/7, to families cherishing having their teens home more often, each of these families truly saw the silver lining of the pandemic to have this special time together. Scroll down to see one family who really got in the pandemic spirit and embraced the total craziness that we were experiencing (because truly, let’s not forget the toilet paper shortage).

All of these photographs were taken as a gift to the participating families, to bring us together virtually while we must stay apart. In return, these made contributions to the Greater DC Diaper Bank. This project was modeled after #TheFrontStepsProject in Needham, MA by Kristen Collins and Cara Soulia, who started a beautiful photography and philanthropic movement embraced around the world. All photographs were taken from a safe distance, and my project ended immediately when Maryland’s stay-at-home orders went into place on March 30th.
