Spring has sprung here in DC, and I think we’re all savoring it more than ever this year… it was a looooong COVID winter, and to see nature’s signs that we’re coming out of it is just amazing. One of my favorite spots for photo sessions in the Bethesda, Maryland area is McGrillis Gardens, and it’s especially gorgeous in springtime. The blooms started peeking through in late March, and by April, it’s azalea heaven at McGrillis Gardens. Azaleas are one of the signature flowers in the Washington, DC area, so I love photographing families with these in bloom.
This sweet family took photographs as a Mother’s Day gift for Mom — perfectly timed for azaleas on the first weekend of May.
This sweet girl was all smiles for her one year photo session, and her mother brought the prettiest outfits!
McGrillis Gardens is also amazing in the fall, especially for early morning sessions with the golden sunlight breaking through. Check out the gorgeous early sunrise glow in these sessions!
The late afternoon brought plenty of gorgeousness, too, and for some families, this time is just better with nap schedules. It’s so critical to take that into account — for the kiddos who are early risers, the mornings are ideal. But sometimes the late afternoon golden hour is better for your family. So one last set for you below, from those later sessions… enjoy!

Hi again Kate,
Earlier, I was viewing your website (and replied)via my cell. Now looking from my laptop…big difference. Even more beautiful photographs.
I can see now that your Fall Mini offer was for specific dates. So, I am still interested in a family photo shoot on that Saturday morning after Thanksgiving (early). And the park in Bethesda you suggest looks awesome.
Please advise.
Thanks!
Liz
